Japanese R&B artist SIRUP (a portmanteau of ‘sing’ and ‘rap’, according to his bio) teams up with London-based producer Joe Hertz for “MAIGO,” a standout groove track from the former’s third and latest EP, CIY, an abbreviation for “Choice Is Yours.”
Joe Hertz anchors SIRUP’s vocals on a dancefloor-ready future R&B hook with a light influence of deep house. It’s a highly replayable song that’s purely innocuous fun. This sets “MAIGO” apart from the rest of the EP that tilts more on the strained Top 40 R&B category. It’s more propulsive, one that could as easily and comfortably make SIRUP a dance vocalist if he chooses to.
